The Mansion's name (possible spoilers)

A belated comment on the Mansion's name. In real life, it was pretty much the very first thing I came up with, long before I hit upon the idea of making a comic, web or otherwise.  I wrote down a bit of doggerel in my sketch book, something along the lines of "High on a cliff overlooking some sea stands the quite remarkable Mansion of E." And then I drew a sketch of a roofed building that was actually E-shaped. (Glad I didn't stay with that..) Everything else followed from that. So, yes, in real life the Ettins were given their name after the Mansion, and not the other way around. If I hadn't gone that route, I would have called them Titans instead.

If I were to do it all over again, I would call the strip The Mansion of Ett, if only because it would be a little more distinctive.

And when I started seriously creating the comic, the name of the ocean was indeed originally "Some Sea", but then I flipped it thematically and it became instead the Specific Ocean, with the matching Titanic Ocean on the other side of the country.  (Yes, in some respects, geographically speaking, "Mansionland" is very loosely inspired by America.)

It's interesting how creativity works its way. I liked Mansion of E. It had a mystery to it and the story lives and breath exploring mysteries while making new ones.

Now, if you hadn't come up with the explanation about the Ettins, I would have assumed that the mansions of E and S were survivors from an ancient line of forts which were numbered alphabetically, a few of which prospered and mushroomed villages, while the rest fell out of use.

If the Tower of E was named after Ettins than the Tower/Mansion of S would be... Sneeches, wouldn't it?

Potentially interesting connection there. Especially with the Mansion's population of Sneeches. Maybe an explanation of their origin to the Mansion is there and old Angus might have had more benevolent reasons for his ransacking than we thought (or acted with benevolence at a deep surprise)?

Ah, neat! It's curious how ideas begin and grow. I've just had an idea which challenges my cybernetics hypothesis, but I'm having so many ideas right now, I'm not sure I should bother typing any one of them out.

Perhaps I should start my own webcomic as an outlet for my creativity, but my ability to concentrate and focus my ideas is in rather shorter supply than the ideas themselves, at present.
